Rehearsal 3

Image
We started with the  Hallelujah Chorus , this time with the music and managed to get the first three sections learned by heart. The scores for Elgar's From the Bavarian Highlands have arrived, so we jumped straight in and sight-read the four numbers we will be doing in our concerts. It's good stuff, but tricky! Finally on to The Lord Bless You and Keep You by John Rutter. It's one of our favourites, and another one to be done from memory. It'll be our encore, so let's hope the audiences want one! The photo shows us enjoying a well-deserved rehearsal break.

Rehearsal 2

We started this week's rehearsal by singing the Hallelujah Chorus from memory - already!  That was mean, but we were surprised by how much of it we already knew (and realised how much homework was needed!). Then on to the Gloria in D by Bach.  We've all got so used to singing "bonae voluntatis" that we found the alternative "bona voluntas" that Bach uses quite confusing. Next week we meet Elgar - if the copies have arrived. Perhaps he's bringing them on his bike!

Rehearsal 1

We started rehearsals for our tour to Leipzig last week.  It was good to welcome our guest singers from the Hampton Singers, Birmingham Choral Union and others who are joining us on tour. The Hallelujah Chorus was on first - great to get us going, and important to really get to know it as we are doing it from memory! Next we "learned" Mendelssohn's Kyrie and Heilig - lovely stuff!  Then on to John Rutter's The Lord Bless you and Keep you , which will be our encore - another one to learn by heart. There's lots of work to be done, but we'll get there!
